A commonly asked question in Crested Butte is about affordable housing. With our home prices so high for most people, how can a bartender or waitress afford to live here? It is certainly a problem, and all of the municipalities within Gunnison County, and the county itself are working on solutions. From my perspective it's an important issue, but we need to focus the effort collectively and on cheaper land. Lots in Crested Butte start at around $800,000 for a single family home lot, while lots in CB Souht are around $100,000 and they are even lower in Gunnison. With free transportation from both of these places, I think affordable housing should be focused in these areas. This problem certainly isn't unique to Crested Butte, but it's an important one and needs to be faced.
